We are pleased to announce the first official Reading Club Event at Smart Center!
We will be reading the short story, “The Old Man and the Sea” by Ernest Hemingway.
The story follows a fisherman in the sea of the Caribbean and the adventures he has. It’s a classic tale of adventure and valuable life lessons about overcoming hardship and finding peace.
This will be a two day event, meeting for approximately two hours each day.
The first day we will discuss necessary vocabulary and the setting to set the stage. Then we will together, read the first half, intermittently discussing the content so everyone is able to follow along with ease.
The second day we will finish reading, again discussing the content to clearly illustrate the story’s plot. We will conclude the event by watching a short animated film of the story so you can recap and visualise it in its entirety, attaching images to everything we read.
We’ll also discuss the different lessons learned from Hemingway and how those ideas apply to everyday life.
The author was a very passionate, famous and prolific writer of his time and still is to this day.
So please come join us on this imaginary adventure. All are welcome and we hope to see you soon!
